Arsenal have a new transfer target after missing a deal for Emiliano Buendia.
And it is not Martin Odegaard, who according to Athleticism, is “set to stay” at Real Madrid this summer despite interest from the north London side in bringing him back after a successful loan.
If reports are to be believed, Arsenal are interested in signing Leicester City playmaker James Maddison.
It is by the reliable @TheAFCBeII on Twitter – which first shattered Arsenal’s interest in Thomas Partey last summer – and this rather surprising development has sent many Gunners supporters into a transfer frenzy.
Otherwise, football.london understands that Maddison is certainly a target for manager Mikel Arteta as he looks to improve his creative options in midfield.
However, signing Maddison will be easier said than done – just ask Chelsea and Manchester United.
In the last two summer transfer windows, the aforementioned duo have signed a King Power Stadium player from Ben Chilwell and Harry Maguire respectively.
And either way, they found the Foxes to be a tough team to negotiate with.
While the Blues ended up splashing a announced £ 50million to sign Chilwell, Man United had to break the transfer record for a center-back with a £ 80million contract to acquire Maguire’s services.
More of the same could be in store for Arsenal regarding Maddison.
Having tied the midfielder to a four-year contract last summer, Leicester will again be in a good negotiating position if the Gunners take a formal approach.
“I am so happy to sign a new contract for this football club”, Maddison said after signing his new deal in August 2020. “It’s an incredibly exciting time for a Leicester City player with so many positive things happening on and off the pitch and I’m delighted to be a part of it. What we’ve accomplished as a club this season is a huge step forward for us and I know there is so much more to come from this team.
“I have enjoyed every moment since I joined Leicester City.
The summer window is officially open, and it is going to be difficult to follow the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

“The supporters have been amazing to me and we have a fantastic set of players in this dressing room who are determined to show what we are capable of doing together in Europe and in the Premier League next season.”
Currently valued between 50 and 70 million euros (43 to 60 million pounds sterling) via the CIES Football Observatory, that could be the asking price to make a deal for Maddison this summer.
Although there is no indication how much Leicester would demand for the 24-year-old.
