The Go Local Extra convenience store on Shoreham Street, opposite Sheffield United’s home in Bramall Lane, has been transformed into a sanctuary dedicated to the England and Manchester City star for the tournament.
The right-back’s face now shines on shoppers from the shelves, with 50 photos of the defender including life-size cutouts in place in the store.
Walker grew up in Sharrow, a few miles from the store, and spent more than a decade with Sheffield United after joining the club at the age of seven.
Store owner Jag Singh, who is a huge England fan, said: “To have a local boy like Kyle in such a big tournament is really exciting and a really proud moment for Sheffield. The store faceover is our way of showing him and other English players our support.
“As a huge soccer fan, it’s great to get buyers excited about the tournament and the prospect of Kyle and his team bringing it home this summer!”
Walker said of the tribute: “Growing up in Sheffield, playing football as a kid, getting screened and going pro I always had incredible support from my local community and with the rest of the England team, I hope we can make all of our supporters proud.
The convenience store has been transformed with the help of Bud Light, the official beer of the England men’s team.
To mark its sponsorship, the company created BOXHEADS – beer packs featuring the faces of Walker and his English teammates Jordan Pickford and Kieran Trippier.
